Become a local guide

Show travellers your city — the way you'd show a friend.

Show travellers your city the way you'd show a friend.

Gollo hosts are locals — actual people who live where the tours happen. Not tour companies. Not agencies. If you love where you live, know the places most travellers never find, and want to share that (with a payout attached), Gollo is built for you.

Who becomes a host on Gollo

  • Locals who love their city — you don't need previous guiding experience
  • Former guides — freelance, agency-trained, or self-taught
  • Passion-turned-pro — coffee, cooking, photography, history, hiking, art, food, music, whatever the thing is that you'd naturally show a friend
  • Side-income seekers — students, part-timers, retirees, weekend hosts

You don't need a big following. You don't need to guide full-time. You need to love where you live and be reliable.

What you'll do

  • Design your tour(s) — where you go, what you do, how long, what to charge
  • Set your availability — recurring rules or specific one-off dates
  • Meet guests and lead the tour you built
  • Get paid via Stripe after each completed tour

What you can earn

Active Gollo hosts earn around A$1,400/month on average. One host running a 3-hour tour every weekend clears A$600+/week. Actual earnings depend on how often you run tours, your pricing, and demand in your city.

You keep the tour's listed price minus a small platform fee. Travellers don't pay booking fees on top — the fee comes out of the host's side. When Gollo runs a promo, the platform absorbs the discount; your payout is still calculated on the full listed price.

See Host resources for the fee mechanics and payout timing.

What Gollo handles for you

  • Payments — Stripe processes cards, we handle refunds and disputes
  • Discovery — SEO, search, recommendations, reels, destination pages, Talk to Gollo
  • Verification — one identity check, we give you a badge on your profile
  • Guest communication tools — in-app messages, meeting-point reveal, notifications
  • Marketing — city + country landing pages, host profiles, review system, personalisation

What you handle

  • Designing a tour you'd want to go on yourself
  • Being at the meeting point on time
  • Communicating clearly with your guests before + during
  • Delivering what your listing promises

That's it. If those four things sound reasonable, you'll thrive on Gollo.

Requirements

  • Local to the destination. You live there or spend serious time there — this is a marketplace for people who know the place.
  • ID verified. One check via Stripe Identity before you list your first tour. Takes a few minutes.
  • Willing to run at least one tour a month. Dormant listings hurt the platform for everyone.
  • Reliable phone and inbox. Guests need to reach you on tour day.

Verification tiers

Every active host is Verified (raspberry badge). Sustained strong performance moves you to Gold (amber) or Platinum (blue) over time. Tiers are awarded manually as your track record builds — no application. See Trust & Safety for what each badge signals to travellers.

What we look for in an application

  • Passion for the place. Why do you love hosting here?
  • Reliability. Do you show up when you say you will?
  • Hospitality. Do you enjoy being with people, including the ones asking basic questions?

Rejection isn't permanent — if we don't accept the first application, we'll tell you why so you can reapply once the gap is closed.
